Mary Adams: I have always been interested in the arts, whether dance or theater or literature, but it wasn’t until I was a Junior in high school that I began to seriously pursue the art of painting. Over the years, painting has become my release and my escape from the qualms of life. In a sense, the canvas is my therapist. It does not judge or question and it has the ability to perfectly mirror my inner-self so that I might better cope with past psychological turmoil. My work, in its initial stages, is selfishly created for only my benefit, but as it evolves, it takes on universal themes and appeal and asks the viewer to think about the subject portrayed in very different ways.
